I should probably get a scale.

Really, I should. Mostly to see my progress, because it’s hard to tell if the belly fat is going away or not, but it’d be nice to see for sure. This scale looks incredible! It’s not the cheapest ever, but it’s not too expensive, either. I don’t intend to buy it, I’m just browsing, but it does look amazing, doesn’t it?

Ah, well. I guess it goes on the wish list of things I’ll probably never buy with the rest of the awesome stuff I find on Amazon.

Honestly, what are your opinions on using a scale? Do you think it helps progress or takes away determination? I know if I stepped on the scale every day and I just kept gaining and gaining when I’m trying so hard to lose, it’d be very discouraging. But if I had a specific measure of my progress, that might help me, too. I don’t know where I stand with scales.

Scales are evil, a tool of the devil :-) I assume you’re trying to loose weight because you want to look a certain way, right? Not weigh a certain number. Scales are a discouragement. You can easily weigh 2 pounds more than last week and still have lost body fat, but retain a little water. You’ll feel horrible about yourself, when you’ve actually done very well. Just get your bodyfat measured at a good gym once a month, that says so much more.

I agree with Lisa with measuring your body fat once a month rather than sticking to a scale. In a day your own weight could vary up to a 5 lbs difference! This is because one day you might have drunk more water than eating substance which may give you a lower weight; or if you went to the washroom (Too much info I know…:P) then that would vary up the scale. Plus you will actually never have a definite number that is your weight, sometimes my weight says I am 150 while 3 hours later when I go on the scale it says that I am 145. I doubt I would be able to lose weight that quickly :D.

I think if you get a scale you should make you sure you get on it not to often or you get addicted and practically spend all your time on the scale.

when i had a scale, i ended up *gaining* weight… it was the weirdest thing. i’d check it and if i’d gain a few pounds i’d get upset & “give up” - i went from 120 to 145 and now i’m back at 125 and never again will i get a scale!

[…] after getting differing opinions between my site and my LiveJournal about whether or not to get a scale, I decided to go for it. I’m pretty glad I did! Since the last time I weighed myself (about […]
