Attack of the… ants?
Posted on July 28th, 2008 @ 8:40 am

We’ve got an ant problem. After over a year of living here with no problem whatsoever, we suddenly have armies of little black ants running back and forth along our walls. I’ll be buying some Raid and ant traps tonight when I go to the gym, but in the meantime I keep thinking about how it must signify my failings as a housewife. I mean, if I kept my house clean, I wouldn’t have ants, right? I must just not be good enough.

In the meantime, I’m having a hard time functioning. I know they’re harmless but they CRAWL. CRAWL! Can you imagine? They’re on the floor… what if they crawl up on my foot? Now, when I say armies of ants, I mean probably 10 at the most visible at any time. It’s not like we have hundreds upon hundreds everywhere - and typing that sentence made me look around the room for the sign of creepy crawlies. Ick.

Sigh. Someone tell me I’m not a failed housewife?

When all else fails, check the date.

Apparently, in this case, I fail. For the past few days, I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with my computer, and why it wouldn’t let me go to certain websites (online banking being one of them). Then, I discovered that my MSN wouldn’t log me in on Trillian, and that made me want to pull my hair out! I then tried to download the actual MSN messenger (Live? MSN? Windows? Who knows, they keep changing it!) and install it, and that wouldn’t work.

All this time, and I sat here like an idiot, trying to figure it out. Matt sits down for a few minutes, tests a couple small things, and then realizes it’s my date. He did a few things to my computer about a week or so ago, and it reset the date. I knew it had, so I changed the month, day, and time back, but apparently forgot to do the year! My computer thought it was 2003, so none of the security certificate things for websites worked. What a dummy I am!

Matt and I rearranged the bedroom over the past few days, and it’s already feeling awesome in here. Lots of space and light and it just fits much much better! I’ve posted some photos on my flickr, but you can only see them if you’re set to a friend or family member. But it’s wonderful!

Thunk… thunk… thunk…
Posted on April 25th, 2008 @ 1:10 am

The doors in this apartment suck. I’m not exaggerating, I’m not trying to whine, it’s just fact.

  • Our balcony screen door doesn’t open or close properly and falls off the track when you try to open or close it.
  • Our bathroom door doesn’t lock. This has led to at least one embarrassing moment for one member of the household.
  • Our storage room door doesn’t latch when it closes, so it just sits nearly closed and never “catches”. This causes it to float open every once in a while and drive me bananas.
  • Matt’s parents’ room door doesn’t shut unless you hold the door shut, grab the handle, and pull up as hard as you can while pulling shut. This causes nights like tonight…

It’s fairly windy tonight. The window’s open but the fan’s off, and yet our curtains are still blowing and there’s a breeze coming through. The worst part of the whole thing, though, is Matt’s parents’ bedroom door. The pressure changes as the breeze is flowing through makes their door open… and then close. Open… and then close. Open… and then close. All the while it’s going “thunk, thunk, thunk” and making me want to go nail it shut!

A couple things to note
Posted on January 11th, 2008 @ 1:51 am

I’m working on a new custom theme. From scratch. Yikes! I’m a bit scared, but whatever. I’ll figure it out eventually.

Also, Matt’s dad waited a long time for Matt’s mom to be gone before making the apartment a big smoke-filled… uh, apartment. She was gone probably eight hours (if that) before our apartment became a crowded bar on a weekend night. I have to say I do understand that it’s cold outside, but what’s the deal here? We pay just as much on the apartment as he does, so why is it that we don’t need to be respected? I won’t say anything to him, because I don’t feel it’s my place, but really… he could get us evicted for this. It’s really irritating.

Matt’s mom came home today with a surprise for us! A foam pad for our mattress (our mattress is really uncomfortable - you can feel the springs and wires when you lay on it) and new sheets! So I seized the opportunity to hop into bed!

I stayed in bed for a few hours watching a movie - Accepted. I really thought it’d be a kind of “meh” movie, since it seemed like stupid humour. Amazingly, it was very good! I was pleasantly surprised.
